Mission Statement

To improve the quality of life for animals in need through foster care and adoption programs, comprehensive veterinary care, behavioural assessments and training, and public education.

Our Goals

1. To provide quality care for pets in need through a reputable foster and adoption program.
2. To ensure that all animals in our care receive proper veterinary care including, but not limited to, spay/neuter and microchip.
3. To provide ongoing education to our foster homes and volunteers regarding animal behaviour, training, medical needs and general care.
4. To promote adoption as the first option for obtaining an animal companion.
5. To reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter advocacy and education.
6. To educate the public on the need for proper identification for their pets, including permanent identification through microchips, in order to improve return rates on animals picked up as strays.
7. To provide resources and education to pet owners in an effort to keep companion animals in their current homes.
8. To advocate for changes to legislation surrounding mass breeding operations, backyard breeding operations and the sale of live animals through pet stores.

Precious Paws Rescue will provide assistance to shelters and pound for animals that require rescue due to space constraints, medical or behavioural issues, etc. Although shelter animals are our primary focus, we will assist with owner-surrender animals when space and resources permit. While in our care, animals will receive quality veterinary care as required to prepare them for adoption and to maintain good health. Temperament evaluations will be performed and ongoing behavioural training and assistance will be provided.

When placing animals in foster or adoptive homes, we will assess the suitability of the home for the animal through a home visit and interview with family members. Precious Paws Rescue will offer educative resources and provide ongoing support throughout the animal's time in the home as required. Precious Paws Rescue will maintain an open return policy which will require that the animals be returned to Precious Paws Rescue should the placement not be successful for any reason at any time throughout the animal's lifetime.
